Blog submission sites are important for bloggers as they submit their blogs to these directories and get exposure to a wider audience.
These sites list hundreds of blogs under various categories, such as health, tech, news, internet, SEO, etc.
Moreover, people visit these blog submission sites (also known as blog directories) to access content from many quality blogs listed there.
Apart from quality content, these sites offer many benefits that we will learn later in this post.
If you search the web, you will find a number of free blog submission sites lists.
But most of these lists are similar and not updated. Even such lists contain those sites that don’t exist anymore.
To ensure quality, I have manually verified the list of high DA blog submission sites.
What are Blog Submission Sites?
These websites store information about thousands of blogs that are arranged by categories. And the number of categories could vary anything from 10 to 30. Moreover, arranging blogs in such a way helps a visitor to find related blogs easily.
Some people call these websites – blog directories. Also, you can compare them with Yellow Pages as they list the online businesses.
Here, bloggers add the URL(s) of their blogs to get links and exposure to millions of visitors.
Many blog submission sites have an RSS feed option. As a result, whenever you publish a new post, it gets available on these sites.
Some blog directories ask for reciprocal links to rank up your blog in the listing.
Further, blog directories earn through Ads. And many of them charge money for listing a blog.
Are Blog Submission Sites still relevant?
It is a valid question after Google’s Panda updates. And, I would say, yes. The blog submission sites are still relevant. But you should use them selectively. In other words, you should not submit your blogs to hundreds of sites.
Rather, choose a few high quality blog directories and list your blog there.
Benefits of Blog Submission Sites
Broadly, blog submission sites provide three benefits:
- Backlinks
- More Exposure & Traffic
- Higher Domain Authority
Backlinks
Many websites provide dofollow links to your blog. But, some of them provide nofollow links only. Though nofollow backlinks don’t provide any link juice, they should be part of your link building process.
The links (dofollow or nofollow) we get from these sites are not powerful. Still, they add some SEO value to our blog.
More Exposure & Traffic
When you create an awesome post, you want to present it to a large audience. And you can partly achieve this goal when you submit your blog to blog directories.
The audience of these sites (blog directories) may visit your blog if it is relevant. Apart from this, many visitors may even subscribe to your email list.
As a result, blog submission activity may send you some good traffic.
Higher Domain Authority
The domain authority (DA) of your blog depends on the number of good quality sites linking to it and the age of your domain. So, backlinks from blog directories enhance the DA value of your blog.
If you analyze any high domain authority site, you will find thousands of sites linking to it.
For example, take the case of Labnol.org. It has a domain authority of 85 and the number of sites linking to it is 3682.
Drawbacks of Blog Submission Sites
- Excessive use of blog submission sites for getting backlinks may backfire. Google may consider this practice as spamming and may downrank your blog. So, you should restrict yourself and have only say, 20% of your backlinks coming from these sites.
- Many sites ask for money to list your blogs.
- Some blog submission sites ask for a reciprocal link. But you may stay away from unwanted links on your site.
- Without money or reciprocal links, these sites take months to list your blog. Moreover, it is also possible that these sites don’t list your blog at all.
Effect of Google Updates on Blog Submission Sites
Many blog submission sites allowed a blog’s listing without editor-review. Hence, Google termed them low quality or spam sites and its Panda algorithm penalized them.
In other words, Google removed such sites from search results or put them low in ranking.
Google feels such sites allow people to manipulate link building whereas it should happen naturally.
In other words, if you have created unique, valuable content, then people should consume it and share it. And backlinks generated this way are natural and valuable.

Check the Quality of Blog Submission sites
You can take the following steps to arrive at the correct answer.
- Firstly, check if a site accepts your link without any editor review. If so, it is not a good site. And do not submit your blog there.
- Secondly, ensure the website’s age is more than two years.
- The site should have a high domain authority. Since higher DA value is a sign of a quality site.
- Check if the site has a high page rank.
- Also, check if the site updates regularly. If yes, it is a good site.
How many of these sites should we use?
It depends on a particular blog. As stated above, not more than 20% of your total backlinks should come from these websites.

Yes. If you choose high DA blog submission sites that have a manual approval process, you get quality backlinks and exposure. In short, it helps your blog’s SEO and ranking. But you should avoid low DA and auto-approval blog submission sites.
Search engines don’t like reciprocal links until these links are fully justified. So, you should add your blog to only a few high DA blog submission directories asking for reciprocal links.
Apart from a link, your blog gets exposure to thousands of visitors of such blog directories. As a result, your site traffic gets a boost.
Moreover, some sites have forums where your answers can earn you new followers.
Final thoughts
If you use blog submission sites wisely, you will get benefits for sure. Sometimes, you become greedy and submit your blog to a large number of sites.
This action may bring trouble to you. Because, Google may consider you a spammer and penalize your site.
I am reminding you again, do not work on poor sites.
